Interchange agencies provide the following services to assist families and carers - - Host Programs - provide respite care to families who have a child or adult with a disability. The care is provided on a regular basis within the volunteer's own home, for example one day, an overnight stay or weekend each month. These arrangements are flexible to suit the volunteers and families needs. - Recreation Programs - a range of fun community based activities. The program provides opportunities for friendships and new exciting experiences, while giving families a short break. Recreation activities could include going to a movie, learning to canoe or having a picnic in a park with friends.

The aim of the program is to provide people and their primary care givers with options for respite that will enhance their quality of life by providing an opportunity to spend time with a peer. Each eligible person is allocated an entitlement to be used at their discretion (eg. weekly, monthly or one off holiday options). The program is available to people with high support needs aged from 16 to 64 years of age. Users of the service are required to pay a contribution towards the cost of the care. Costs vary but may be as low $2 per hour for some respite.
